Bessemer City junk removal
In Bessemer City, every route for big junk costs something. This page lines up the city's paid pickup, its rental truck and the companies listed below so you can match the route to your pile.
Town details from official town and county sources, checked October 2026.
Bessemer City was chartered in 1893 and named for Sir Henry Bessemer, inventor of the Bessemer steel process. Iron furnaces came before the textile mills here, and the Old Ormand Furnace is one of the oldest remaining in the country.
The junk removal companies below say they serve 28016. We publish the list and keep the city's rules current; the hauling is done by the companies themselves, each on its own terms.
Featured is a paid spot and is always labeled. Every other company here is listed free, grouped and ordered the way How we list explains. Listings were checked against each company's own pages in October 2026. Confirm prices and availability with the company before you book.

Waste Pro, the city's contractor, runs bulk pickup as a paid service. It costs $35 for up to three items and $15 for each additional item, with a limit of five items per resident per week. You book it directly at (980) 255-3800. A full five-item pickup comes to $65.
The city also rents out a dump truck for $75, plus fees once the load passes one ton. Call 704-629-5542 to check availability. You do the loading, so it fits a weekend cleanout with a few helpers.
A junk removal company is the third choice. Published prices from Charlotte-area companies (October 2026) put the median quarter truck near $241 and the median half truck near $431. You pay more, and in return someone else carries everything out. None of these medians is a quote from any company.
The city's solid waste page states no electronics or appliances for bulk pickup. A washer, a chest freezer or an old TV needs another route. The county's Tryon Recycling Center at 2755 Tryon Courthouse Road, inside Bessemer City, takes appliances free from Gaston County residents once they are emptied and cleaned, and TVs or monitors for one GarbCard ($5) each.
The five-item weekly cap is the other gap. A basement or a garage rarely fits in five items, and stretching one cleanout over several weeks means living with the pile in between. In that case a single hauler visit or the rental truck tends to make more sense.
When you hire out appliance removal, ask three things. Is there a refrigerant fee for a fridge, freezer or window unit? One published local fee was $40, and some Charlotte-area companies include it in the item price. Does the price change if the appliance is in a basement or needs two people? And will a working unit go to donation or scrap recycling rather than the landfill?
The Habitat ReStore in Gastonia takes some working appliances within age limits, such as washers and refrigerators 15 years old or newer. It does not take dishwashers. Our appliance removal page covers how these jobs are priced.
Tryon is a full county convenience site, open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:30 PM. It runs on prepaid GarbCards and does not take cash. One to ten bags of household trash cost one card ($5). Bulky items, mattresses and box springs cost two cards ($10) each. Sorted recyclables and scrap metal cost nothing, and the site also takes yard debris.
Construction debris such as wood and carpet is not accepted at Tryon or any other convenience site. It goes to the Gaston County Landfill in Dallas at $46 per ton, with a half-ton minimum. For the other county sites and their fees, see Where to take it.
