What yard waste removal covers
This covers what a storm or a long weekend of yard work leaves behind: branches and limbs, brush piles, bagged leaves and clippings, shrubs and hedge trimmings, old wood or chain-link fencing, landscaping timbers, playsets and weathered patio furniture. A hauler loads it from the backyard or the slope behind the house, so nothing has to be dragged to the street.
For standing trees, or limbs hanging over a roof, call a tree service first. Junk haulers typically load debris that is already down.
Fencing and playsets are mixed material. Metal parts can go to scrap, while old fence boards and playset lumber count as wood debris, which the county convenience sites do not take. Intact fencing may suit the Habitat ReStore in Gastonia, which lists fencing among its building supplies.
How yard debris is priced
Brush is light for its size, so Charlotte-area companies generally price it by volume, like household junk. Published prices in October 2026 ran $115 to $219 for an eighth of a truck and $255 to $338 for three eighths. Loose brush takes more room than you expect, so cutting limbs into shorter lengths can shrink the load.
Dirt, rock and sod are another matter. They are dense, and a Charlotte cost guide lists landscaping material at $140 to $180 per ton. Ask how the load will be priced before anyone starts. If a fence or playset has to come apart first, ask whether that labor is in the price. A mixed pile of brush, an old grill and a few fence panels can often go at one volume price, so ask.
Taking it yourself
The county route is cheap if you have a truck. Three convenience sites accept yard debris from residents, and the landfill in Dallas charges less for yard waste than for household trash: $26 per ton against $46. Commercial yard waste has to go to the landfill.
Some towns collect it too. Stanley runs combined junk and yard waste pickup weeks, while Belmont's bulk collection leaves yard waste out. Check your town page, such as Stanley, or the disposal guide for every site.
Ask before you book
- Is brush priced by volume or by weight?
- Do you take dirt, rock or sod?
- Is taking apart a fence or playset included in the price?
- Do I need to cut or bundle the limbs first?
- Where does the green waste go?
The do-it-yourself route in Gaston County
Gaston County residents can take yard debris, paper-bagged or loose, to the Tryon, Riverbend and Crowders Creek convenience sites; the Hardin site at the landfill does not take it. Bigger loads can go to the Gaston County Landfill in Dallas at $26 per ton, with a half-ton minimum ($13). Cover and secure the load, since uncovered loads carry a $200 surcharge. Wood from fences and playsets is not accepted at convenience sites; take it to the landfill.

Yard Waste Removal questions
- How much does yard waste removal cost?
- Published prices from Charlotte-area companies (October 2026) run $115 to $219 for an eighth of a truck and $255 to $338 for three eighths. One app platform serving Gastonia lists swing set removal from $105. Dense material like dirt or sod is often priced by weight instead. These are published figures, not quotes, so get a firm price before loading starts.
- Where can I take yard debris in Gaston County?
- The Tryon site in Bessemer City, Riverbend in Mount Holly and Crowders Creek in Gastonia accept yard debris, paper-bagged or loose, from county residents. The Hardin site at the landfill does not. The county landfill in Dallas takes yard waste at $26 per ton with a $13 minimum, and commercial yard waste loads must go there.
- Can a hauler clear storm debris?
- Yes, once it is on the ground. Downed limbs, broken branches and scattered brush load like any other bulky debris and are usually priced by volume. Leave standing or hanging trees to a tree service. Photos of the pile help a hauler give a firmer price, especially when the debris is spread across a large yard.
- Does my town pick up yard waste at the curb?
- It depends on the town. Stanley schedules combined junk and yard waste pickup weeks, while Belmont's bulk collection does not include yard waste. Commercial yard waste must go to the county landfill wherever you live. Check your town's page for its current rules before you set a pile out.
