High Shoals junk removal
High Shoals had 595 residents in the 2020 census, and we found no published town bulk pickup. So big items have two places to go: a county drop-off site or a company from the list below.
Town details from official town and county sources, checked October 2026.
The town sits on the South Fork Catawba River, where John Fulenwider's iron works supplied cannonballs in the War of 1812. It incorporated in 1973, which makes it the newest municipality in Gaston County, and it uses ZIP 28077.
Junk removal companies that list High Shoals in their service area appear below. We don't rank them and we don't haul anything ourselves. Use the notes on this page to weigh a quote against a drive to the county site.

If you only have one or two pieces, such as a recliner or an old mattress, the minimum charge is the number that matters. Published prices from Charlotte-area companies (October 2026) show minimums from $75 to $150, with a median near $108. Those are reference figures, not a promise of any company's price.
Ask whether travel is built into the price or added on, since policies differ. Ask whether a same-day request costs extra, too; published same-day fees in the Charlotte area ran from nothing to $40.
For a single item, compare that quote with the county price. A mattress or a bulky item costs two GarbCards ($10) at a county convenience site. What you trade is your time, your truck and your back.
We did not find a published bulk or large-item pickup program for High Shoals. That may only mean it isn't posted online, so call the town before you set a couch by the road. Ask what happens to large items and whether there is a fee.
If the town has no service for what you have, Gaston County's convenience sites are open to county residents Monday through Saturday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:30 PM. They take bulky items, mattresses, appliances, electronics, passenger tires and scrap metal. Construction debris such as wood and carpet is not taken at any of them and goes to the county landfill instead.
Ask whether the price is by volume or by weight. The local companies we found price household junk by how much of the truck it fills, and several price concrete, brick and shingles by weight. Ask what loading covers: carrying up from a basement, a long walk to the truck, a sweep-up afterward.
Raise special items before the truck arrives. In published Charlotte-area prices, the mattress surcharges we found were $25, and one local refrigerant fee was $40 per appliance. Ask for the total in writing before anything is loaded.
A working refrigerator 15 years old or newer, a solid dresser or a dining table may suit the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 1840 E Franklin Blvd in Gastonia. It schedules free pickup of large items online, though it can turn down anything that falls short of its criteria. It doesn't accept mattresses or box springs.
Clearing out a family home can mix all three paths: donation, the county site and a hired truck. Our estate cleanouts page covers how to plan that kind of job, and Where to take it lists the county drop-off sites with their fees.
We did not find a published bulk or large-item pickup program for High Shoals. Ask the town how large items are handled before setting anything at the curb. Gaston County's convenience sites are the backup: residents can drop bulky items and mattresses for two GarbCards ($10) each, and appliances and scrap metal free once emptied and cleaned. The Hardin Recycling Center sits at the county landfill, 3155 Philadelphia Church Road, Dallas.

Usable furniture and household goods can often be donated. Each place sets its own rules, so check before you load the car.
