What furniture removal covers

Most furniture jobs come from a short list: sofas and loveseats, sectionals, recliners and lift chairs, dressers, beds and headboards, desks and office chairs, filing cabinets, dining sets, bookshelves, entertainment centers and patio furniture. A hauler carries each piece out from wherever it sits, so nothing has to reach the curb first. That carry is most of what you pay for, especially on stairs or down a narrow hall.

Charlotte-area companies publish furniture prices in two ways. Some list a flat price per item, which suits one couch or a single recliner. Others charge by how much of the truck you fill. The median published minimum among local operators was $107.50 in October 2026, so one piece rarely costs less than that. For several pieces, ask for both kinds of price and compare.

Before you pay anyone, try these

A piece in good shape may not need a hauler at all. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 1840 E Franklin Blvd in Gastonia takes sofas, dressers, chairs, tables, bookshelves, TV stands, bed frames and small desks, and it schedules free pickup of large items online. It turns away sleeper sofas, large executive desks, entertainment centers, armoires and anything broken or stained.

Your town may collect it too. Lowell runs a free bulk week every month. Mount Holly picks up a couch or chair that carries a $15 sticker from the Municipal Complex. Belmont collects furniture on a quarterly schedule. The Lowell and Mount Holly pages spell out the details.

If you do hire a hauler for a piece that could be donated, say so up front. Some companies drop usable furniture at a donation center as part of the job, and others send everything to disposal. Knowing which one you are paying for makes quotes easier to compare.

Questions that keep the price honest

Get the price before anything is loaded, and ask whether it covers the carry, the stairs and a sweep of the spot. Published stairs fees in the area range from nothing to a flat charge per flight. A heavy or awkward piece that needs two people can carry its own fee as well. Ask where the furniture goes afterward, too. A company that donates usable pieces should be able to say where. The usual answers are a donation center, a recycler or the county landfill in Dallas.

When you are ready to compare, the companies listed here serve Gaston County. Call two or three, describe the pieces and the route out of the house, and compare like for like.

Ask before you book

  • Is the price per item, or by how much of the truck I fill?
  • Does that price include carrying it down the stairs?
  • Is there an extra charge for a piece that needs a two-person lift?
  • Will you take apart a sectional or bed frame if it won't clear the door?
  • Where will the furniture go: donation, recycling or the landfill?

Furniture Removal questions

How much does furniture removal cost in Gaston County?
Published prices from Charlotte-area companies (October 2026) put a single couch at $95 to $135 and a two- or three-piece sectional at $141 to $185. One Gastonia company lists $235 to $315 to clear a room of furniture. These are published figures, not quotes, and no company is bound by them. Stairs, a long carry or an awkward piece can raise the price, so get a firm number before loading starts.
Can I donate a used couch instead of paying to haul it?
Often, if it is clean and intact. The Habitat ReStore in Gastonia accepts sofas, love seats and futons, and you can schedule free pickup of large items online. It does not take sleeper sofas, and it can decline anything stained, broken or outside its criteria. If the ReStore says no, your town's bulk pickup or a hauler is the next step.
Does my town pick up furniture at the curb?
Several towns do, each in its own way. Lowell collects furniture free during its monthly bulk week. Mount Holly takes items that carry a $15 sticker bought at the Municipal Complex. Bessemer City's bulk service runs through Waste Pro at $35 for up to three items. Town pickup works well when you can get the piece to the curb yourself and the date suits you.
Do haulers charge extra for stairs?
Some do and some do not. Published Charlotte-area price sheets show stairs fees ranging from nothing at all to a flat add per flight, with figures such as $25 per flight above the first floor or $50 for one flight. Ask before you book, and mention every staircase, landing and tight turn between the furniture and the truck.
